Set in the racially divided Marseilles with flashbacks to Kosovo, Rie Rasmussen’s 2008 Human Zoo is a film about a woman haunted by her hellish experiences in the war-torn Balkans. In depicting nihilistic crime in postwar Belgrade, the film mixes fascist chic with a sobering portrayal of shifting borders and the power of romance to save souls. Human Zoo is a Luc Besson presentation and a Europe Corp production premiered at this year’s Berlinale. The film stars Rie Rasmussen, Nikola Djuricko, Nick Corey, Vojin Cetkovic, Hiam Abbass, Said Amadis, Branislav Lecic, Ivan Jevtovic, Jean-Pierre Sanchez, Cyril Raffaelli, Daphne Hacquart, Jean-Luc Boucherot, Vladimir Posavec, Branislav Tomasevic and Dany Benedito.
