The greatest of all worldly quests is a quest for one true love. Set in post World War I Serbia, Uros Stojanovic’s Tears for Sale unfolds in a remote mountain village devoid of men, where two beautiful sisters under a powerful curse must find a virile male or die. Like most young women in the village of Pokrp, twenty something sisters Ognjenka (Katarina Radivojevic) and Little Goddess (Sonja Kolacaric) are virgins because their town’s men folk were eradicated by generations of war. When the two accidentally kill Pokrp's sole surviving male -- the near-catatonic Grandpa Bisa -- in an ill-advised attempt to experience a man's touch, they are condemned to death by a group of angry females.
Winning a reprieve by promising to deliver a replacement male within three days, the sisters leave the village, finding true love in Charleston King (Stefan Kapicic), a slick dance-hall dandy, and the Man of Steel (Nenad Jezdic), a buffoonish circus performer. Though they would prefer to keep the men all to themselves, fear of their grandmother's (Olivera Katarina) curse drives them back to Pokrp.
