Ram fortress is located on the right bank of the Danube river. The sources first mentioned it in 1128 when the Byzantines defeated the Hungarians in its vicinity. In 15th century it was an important cornerstone of the Turkish defensive line from the Hungary. In the first half of 18th century it was temporarily in possession of Austria. The base of the fortress is rectangular, with five towers. There are three smaller towers on the east and two on the west wall. The main tower is located in the southwest corner and through it led into the fortress – Donjon Tower.
